Teamwork Takes Centre Stage in August Employee Engagement Initiative
Teamwork Takes Centre Stage in August Employee Engagement Initiative

Employees across Cubb Sand and Gravel came together throughout August to take part in a company-wide challenge designed to strengthen teamwork, encourage collaboration and celebrate the positive contributions made by colleagues across the business.
The August theme, Team Spirit, saw employees take part in a month-long Team Spirit Challenge, with colleagues across the company's sites working together to earn points through a variety of activities designed to encourage engagement, creativity and community involvement.
Participants were able to earn points for their site through foodbank donations, team and site photographs, workplace challenges such as developing a site motto or creating a team crest, and a cross-site appreciation activity that encouraged employees to recognise and celebrate the contributions of colleagues across the business.
To ensure fairness and encourage participation from all locations, scoring was adjusted based on site headcount, creating a level playing field and giving every team an equal opportunity to compete.
The challenge forms part of Cubb Sand and Gravel's Monthly Focus Initiative, which delivers a different wellbeing or engagement theme each month alongside activities designed to encourage participation across the workforce. Previous themes have focused on wellbeing, physical activity, inclusion and work-life balance. Alongside each monthly activity, employees also receive wellbeing articles and practical guidance linked to the relevant theme, shared through both printed materials and online communications to help reinforce key messages and provide additional support.
"The Team Spirit Challenge generated a fantastic response from participating teams, with employees embracing the opportunity to work together, support worthwhile causes and celebrate what makes their individual teams unique,” commented Alex Kelly, Employee Engagement Coordinator at Cubb Sand and Gravel.
“One of the most rewarding aspects has been seeing colleagues recognise and appreciate each other's contributions, while also creating opportunities for teams across different sites to engage with one another. The challenge has created plenty of friendly competition, but more importantly it has reinforced the importance of teamwork and collaboration throughout the business."
The final submissions and scores are currently being reviewed, with an overall winning site set to be announced once all entries have been collated. However, the initiative has already created some great examples of teamwork, creativity and participation across our sites.
By combining friendly competition with activities that promote recognition, creativity and community support, the challenge has helped strengthen relationships across the business while reinforcing the values that underpin Remix Dry Mortar's workplace culture.
As the Monthly Focus Initiative continues, Cubb Sand and Gravel remains committed to creating opportunities for employees to connect, share experiences and contribute to a positive and supportive working environment.
